The auction was in 2003 not 1993. Jan Stammers from whom I bought the car at auction advises as follows:
“The chassis is not from an AC. It was built by my late Brother in Law, Chas Stammers, with parts supplied by John Tojeiro’s company, Tojeiro Automotive Developments.
The article makes no mention of the connection with “Corsica”. Chas Stammers father was a founder and owner of Corsica Coach Works which before the war was one of Britain’s foremost makers of bodies for prestigious cars, including several Bugatti Type 57s Atalantes. The most well known of these is probably the Colonel Giles car details of which are in the Bugatti museum at Prescott. Chas worked with his father at Corsica and that is where he learnt his skills. This Tojeiro therefore has a direct connection with Corsica and is the last car made that can claim to do so. There is a full article on Corsica Coachworks, including a photograph of Chas and my late Husband Jack, sitting in and beside the car in the June 1991 Edition of Classic and Sportscar.
Jan Stammers”
The engine is a 1955 MG Xpeg with a Laystall, (not Laycock), high compression cylinder head.
I hope this clarifies these matters.
